Dieline Design Tips: Complete Checklist

Designing your packaging on a template allows you to be as creative as you like. Designing a dieline is as critical as the packaging itself because it is the foundation of the whole packaging manufacturing process.

If you are unaware of the die-line or what it looks like, you can download the die-line template from here.

To make sure that nothing goes wrong while designing your die-line template, please consider following the steps below:

1. Document Setup

The first step in creating a die-line template is setting up the document you will be working on.

The second step is to select the layer you want to work on & here’s how you can do it.

The next step that helps in creating a perfect template is selecting the CMYK Color Mode

As shown in the image below, it begins with

Step 2: Select Document Color Mode

Step 3: Select CMYK Color from it

By doing so, the tab of your document will indicate CMYK Preview.

To make sure your design looks its best, always double-check that your images and text are facing the correct way as per the orientation guides. The best way to test it is to print it out at home and fold it together.

Before starting to work on your artwork, there is something that you just need to follow, such as guidelines for general artwork.

  1. Select all text elements and select Type from the menu bar. A drop-down menu will appear.
  2. Select Create Outlines to outline the text.

6. Embed Images

To ensure the best results, please ensure that all images are embedded in the document before sending; this will ensure the highest level of quality and accuracy.

  1. In the menu bar, select ‘Window’ and then ‘Links’ to bring up the ‘Links’ window.
  2. Click on the linked file to select it if it isn’t embedded.
  3. Choose ‘Embed’ from the top right menu of the ‘Links’ window.
  4. Repeat the procedure until all images are embedded.

7. Add Pantone Colors:

To add Pantone colors, follow the following steps.

Now you can choose your desired Pantone colors, but avoid using the left & right arrow keys; it might result in changing the color option. Further, you can select up to 4 Pantone colors at a time.

Please add your Pantone color at the bottom of your artwork before sending it to us.
