To manufacture a box, it is essential for one to know how to measure box dimensions properly. And to make that happen, you must be aware of how to measure the three dimensions of your product(s), such as Length, Width, & Height
By properly measuring these three dimensions of your product, you can accelerate the process of manufacturing your box. This guide will explain how to measure your product for a box that fits perfectly.
How to Measure a Rectangular Product?
To measure a rectangular product, you should be aware of three dimensions in particular, such as Length, Width, & Height(Depth).
Let’s start with measuring the length of a rectangular product.
In order to measure the length of your rectangular product, you have to lay your product on a flatter surface to measure the length of your product, as shown above in the image. In our case, it was 3.9 inches.
As shown above in the image, you must lay your rectangular product on a flatter surface to measure its width. In our case, it was 2.7 inches.
To measure the height of your rectangular product, you must lay the product on a flatter surface, as shown in the image above. In our case, it was 0.3 inches.
Now that you have all three measurements ready, either send that information to the box manufacturer or add 0.078 inches or 2mm in all three dimensions, and you will come up with the perfect box size.
How to Measure a Cylindrical Product?
There are two ways to measure the dimension of your spherical products. If you have a ruler by your side, then you have to find these three dimensions:
- Length
- Width
- Height/Depth
And if you have a vernier caliper by your side, then you only have to find two sides, such as
- Length
- Width
Here’s how you can measure your product via a ruler
When measuring the length and width of your spherical product, you must lay the product on a flatter surface, as shown above. In our case, it was 1.1 inches.
Note: Both length and width are the same in cylindrical product
Using a flat surface, like that shown in the image above, you can measure the height of your product. In our case, it was 6.3 inches.
Now that you have all the measurements you need for your product add 0.078 inches or 2mm to make a perfect fit for your box.
Measuring a Cylindrical product using Vernier Caliper:
It’s the easiest way to measure your product through a vernier caliper. And with a vernier caliper, you would only have to find two measurements, as mentioned above.
The first one is length. To measure the length of your product, you have to place your product horizontally in a caliper; this way, it will tell you the length of your spherical product.
And to find the depth of your product via a caliper, you have to place your product vertically; this way, you will be able to know the depth of your product.
After you have both of the measurements, you can add 0.078 inches or 2mm to your measurements to make a perfect fit for your box.
